Hum

Jumma Chumma had already become the craze of nation. We were not surprised when Hum released and got the biggest ever opening for a film in the history of Indian cinema. But the collection started dipping from third week onwards but still Megastar Amitabh Bachchan carried this film entirely on his mighty shoulders and made it a successful venture. This very highly priced film did business of about 1.5 crores in Bombay and 1.2 crores in rest parts of the country. The film topped the box-office in South India where it's business is even little bit better than year's biggest grosser Saajan. 

Henna

Making in since 1974, the film finally released this year. This was the dream project of Raj Kapoor. Randhir Kapoor's ambitious attempt to step in Randhir Kapoor's shoes proved very successful. The film was priced at 40 lacs to 45 lacs per major circuits and did business of 70 lacs to 80 lacs in all major circuits. This film proved a much needed hit for Rishi Kapoor who has been going through a low phase. 

Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin

Priced at 15 lacs to 20 lacs per territory, the film went on to gross 50 lacs in all major circuits . But the best business of this film come from Bombay where it grossed around 70 lacs. This film is another hit in Aamir Khan's kitty. The film has also marked the debut of Director Mahesh Bhatt's daughter Pooja Bhatt. 

Kurbaan

Very moderately priced at 12 lacs, the film did business of about 60 lacs in northern circuits and 40 lacs in rest parts of India. The film was based on usual dacait-drama and is a successful hit film. The film has also marked the debut of Ayesha Jhulka. 

Patthar Ke Phool

The music of this film had already become a big hit but the film did not do as expected business but still it should be counted as one of the hit picture of the year. The film did business of about 70 lacs in Bombay and 70-80 lacs in Southern circuits. But the film couldn't do same magic in other territories especially in North where it is a disaster but the film proved successful in big cities. Raveena Tandon , yet another debutant. 

Hafta Bandh

It did exceedingly well in Maharashtra but the film has not done the same kind of business in other parts of India. Outside Maharashtra, it's just an average fare. But since this film is a moderately priced, it should be counted as a hit for Jackie Shroff, whose stock these days are going higher day by day. 

Saudagar

It opened to thumping up response on it's opening day. The story of this film is as same as Sanam Bewafa and Kurbaan but it is made on a far grander scale than both movies. This Subhash Ghai's magnum opus was priced at 60 lacs to 80 lacs per circuits and it went on to gross 2 crores in Bombay, 1.3 crores in rest parts of India. The film saw the reunion of thespian Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar after nearly 32 years. 

Phool Bane Angaray 

People who had thought Rekha's career is over due to her controversy are having sleepless nights. The success of film surprised entire industry and trade. It was low priced film and has done approximate business of 40 lacs to 50 lacs in all major circuits. 

Saathi

Very moderately priced film proved a box-office hit for Aditya. The music played big hand on the success of film. The film did an approximate business of 35 lacs to 40 lacs in each circuits. 

Saajan

The film opened to fantabulous opening of 100% all-over the country. The superhit music gave a big boast to the film and ofcourse not to forget the superlative performances from the three leading starcast. It was sold at an approximate ratio of 40 lacs to 50 lacs per major territory and it had done business worth of 2.5 crores in Bombay alone, 1.5 crores in others parts of India. The film is the undoubtedly the biggest grosser of the year and still running strong in various parts of the Idia. The film is a top blockbuster everywhere especially in Maharashtra ,West Bengal, South India and in North India it's business is on par with Sanam Bewafa which did record breaking business there. 

Sadak

The film got an bumper opening mainly because of Sanjay Dutt's new found craze after Saajan. The film sold at an ratio of 30 lacs to 35 lacs, is doing business of about 80 lacs to 90 lacs in all major circuits. The film also first true superhit for Sanjay Dutt who had mostly rely on the other stars shoulders for a hit. 

Sanam Bewafa

The film starring heartthrob Salman Khan and new heroine Chandani was sold at medium price of 15 lacs per circuits and the film went on to gross 1.5 crores in Northern circuits and 1 crore in rest parts of India. The film did phenomenal in Northern circuits and excellent in other parts of the country. It is the biggest grosser of the year in Northern circuits. The film was inspired from a Pakistani film and it's a blockbuster. Saawan Kumar has got his much needed hit with Sanam Bewafa who had a lean phase with no hit since Souten. 

Prem Qaidi

It marked the debut of Karishma Kapoor, the grand daughter of Raj Kapoor. The film didi excellent business in Bombay and Delhi-U.P. but it has not done the same kind of business in other parts of India. But still it's a decent hit and great debut for Karishma Kapoor. 

100 Days

Starring Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit in lead roles. The film grossed approximately 50 lacs to 55 lacs in all major circuits. Considering it's price per territory its a good hit. 

Phool Aur Kaante. 

Released along with much hyped Lamhe, the film proved to be a surprise winner in it's first week itself by taking excellent initial all-over the country while the other one flopped badly. Sold at a low price of 15 lacs per major territory, the film is doing business of over 1 crore to 1.3 crores in all major circuits. The blockbuster success of this film has surprised the entire Industry peoples and Trade. The film is the most profitable blockbuster of the year considering its price. People  dismissed him as  ' Poor Man's Salman Khan' but Ajay has proved them wrong beyond a doubt. Now, Ajay Devgan can share the honour of being new heartthrob with reigning superstar Salman Khan.
